My Dad with two monster Santee Cooper bass. I was his net man that day in a local tournament which we (or should I say he) won with a limit weighing in at 30 lbs. 08 oz. These two beauties tipped the scales at 10 lbs. 11 oz. and 7 lbs. 03 oz. respectively.

This Lake Murray 10 lb. bass fell for a spinnerbait in mid February. Slow rolling a big heavy spinnerbait along deep grass edges is a sure way to get bit by magnum sized bass. I used to average catching at least three 10+ pound bass a year when Lake Murray had the grass. To bad the brilliant minds managing Lake Murray can't see the forest for the trees. The grass needed to be "managed" not destroyed. Umm, still upsets me just thinking about it.

This Lake Murray 8 pound beauty munched down on a big swim bait. I guess those big swim baits aren't just for California largemouth anymore. I caught several more bass that day. The bass were schooling in the main lake and my Zara Spook Jr. was doing some damage. I ended up with a tournament limit that busted the 20 pound mark and I was only on the water for four hours. Yep, that was a good day.

Fishing with FLW Tour Pro Kevin Lasyone. Showing him Lake Murray before the tournament. This bass weighed 6 lbs. 08 oz. and he caught several other nice bass while we fished. Kevin placed 13th in the FLW Lake Murray Tournament.

Mike Ward had a banner day on Lake Murray in January 2007. The only reason I am in this picture is to help Mike get most of his fish in the picture. We wacked 'em that day but Mike busted all of the heavy bass. His best five weighed in at 27 lbs. 10 oz. with the bass pictured weighing 7 lbs., 6 lbs. 13 oz., 6 lbs. 08 oz., and 4 lbs. 07 oz. Our best five together that day went over 32 lbs.

Kevin Britt hoists a Lake Murray 10 pounder he caught near Goat Island during a low water period at the lake. Once again, that was one of those grass grown bass. Lake Murray became a "Big Bass" factory because of the abundant grass habitat. I'll be curious to see how the bass fishing changes over the next three or so years now that the grass is gone. I'm not sure what Kevin caught that bass on. I just can't seem to remember, but I believe it was on a Texas rigged worm. A big worm if I'm not mistaken ... Maybe a Zoom Old Monster. Nevertheless, that is one beautiful Lake Murray bass. How would you like to have a couple of those in your tournament bag at weigh-in time?

Yeah, I fish for largemough bass, but this 23 pound Lake Murray striper nailed my Bomber suspending jerkbait that I was working on 10 pound Stren line. I wrestled with this fish for the longest time, but I finally wore her down. Yep, a fish this size deserves to go into my Hall of Fame. She earned it.

The C.A.T.T. event at Lake Murray on May 29, 2010 turned out to be a banner day for Mike and me. We caught a bunch of bass that day and the best five weighed in at 30.02-lbs with a 9.09-lb monster that Mike landed. While most of the tournament field worked the herring bite, Mike and I decided to try something different. We went looking for some bass around docks. We found 'em, and they bit our Shooter Jigs. Some days on the water you'll just never forget; this was one of those days.
