LAKE WATEREE

Lake Wateree is dammed on the upper and lower ends of the lake. The lake is about 13,700 acres and is 100 feet above Mean Sea Level at full pool. Lake Wateree is at the beginning stages of significant land/shoreline development.

Largemouth bass fishing on Lake Wateree is generally good year around. The lake maintains a healthy population of bait and gamefish. The lake has good bottom structure and plenty of cover in the form of grass, brush piles, rock, docks, bridges, and stumps. Wateree is a fun lake to fish and a consistent producer despite its small size and heavy tournament fishing pressure.

Unlike many of our South Carolina fisheries Lake Wateree has plenty of lake access. On either side of the lake from dam to dam you can find good ramps with adequate parking near your favorite fishing hole.

July 2007: Carlton and his brother Tim drove over to Wateree to fish with me today. What can I say? These two guys were fun to fish with. The smack talking started right away between the two and it was "Game On" from there. All kidding aside we had a real good day on the water. We located some areas that were holding some bass and the brothers didn't have any problems yanking them in the boat. We boated 7 bass, had one shake off about half way to the boat, and just plain missed a couple of bites. The best five weighed just over 12-lbs. No monster bass today but all of the fish were solid keepers. Nice job men!

July 2007: Josh and Mike drove in to fish Lake Wateree today, and what a day it was. The day started a bit unusually. Before we stepped into my Triton to begin our day we witnessed a guy back his truck right off the side of the ramp. The ramp is steep on the side so the truck ended up sitting on its frame with no chance of driving it out. Anyway, to make a long story short we all got behind the truck, lifted it up, and swung it around. The truck was now free to go. So, now we have done our good deed for the day; and how do we get rewarded? ... The trolling motor quits working at our first fishing spot. Break out the paddle! Try paddling a 21-foot Triton around all day. The trolling motor issue was really a bummer because it did affect what we could have done with those Wateree bass today. Anyway, no need to complain. We improvised and continued to execute our fishing game plan the best we could. We ended up with decent results too. Josh and Mike are pictured with a nice 5-bass tournament limit anchored by a stout 5-lb 10-oz  donkey Josh boated. I should mention that Josh is a member of our military armed forces, and he is scheduled for deployment in just a few days. I would like to wish him well and a safe return. Hey, we had a great day. Josh and Mike are great guys to fish with. These guys made my job easy. All I had to do was get them around fish and they would stick 'em. Great job guys.

July 2007: Who said it's too hot and humid to go bass fishing? Yep, it was a typical South Carolina hot July summer day, but the bass fishing was pretty hot on Lake Wateree on this day as well. Launched at 6:15 AM and had a limit by 8:00 AM and culled the rest of the day. Didn't get the real big bite all day long but the action was consistent and catching bass is always fun even if their tails are too close to their heads. Caught these bass from the surface down to about 14 feet on a mixed bag of baits: hard plastics, soft plastics, and jigs.

May 2007: Gary Taylor and his lovely wife Jean have a place on Lake Wateree and wanted to learn more about catching bass on their home waters. Well, they did pretty well I'd say. Jean was the star of the day catching bass after bass on a buzzbait. Gary and I were just trying to keep up. We ended up with about 10 bass with the best five weighing 15 lbs.
